Our first undergraduate-only class was offered in fall 2012 through the Chancellor’s Honors Program. The class, focused on challenges in disarmamnet, was very well received and culminated with a class tour of ORNL.
UNHO 101 Global Zero: Challenges, Obstacles, and Hard Problems
This course is about nuclear weapons in the modern world and about efforts to eliminate the deadly threat they present. Students are exposed to critical issues in nuclear security and the ongoing international efforts for complete nuclear disarmament, including US and global efforts to control nuclear weapons and technology and the international regimes intended to arrest proliferation. This course does not only discuss whether going to zero is a good and feasible idea, but will also focus on the practical implications, challenges, and problems of nuclear disarmament for the US and the international community.
